After lots of news articles about PS4 Linux and the fact it is not going to see a release because of drama; I got to the idea to make an exploit together with the community.

Presenting the PS4webkit project!
  • So what is this "project" all about?
My plan is to develop a webkit/userland exploit with the help of the whole community, it pretty unlikely to succeed but hey! we can always try.
  • But how can I contribute?
Simple, if you have any research, write-up's, CVE's, code or anything that could be usefull to other contributors, commit it on the github or paste it into the comments on this thread
  • Are there any rules you need to follow?
Just to keep all code clean and as stable as possible there are some thing's you must not do to the code:
  1. Add credit's to your code (Full ASCII banner are not allowed, but a single line comment mentioning you is allowed if you have written a big piece of code)
  2. Don't commit code if you don't know what it does, seriously, leave it to the real devs (if any will ever join :p)
  3. Post research and code in their respective branch
  • So where is the github?
The project github is located at https://github.com/kazookid0/PS4webkit

Let's try to make something out of it. (btw plz no hate i tried lol)

Sure I will join you, but you need to sort this out more. Also what do you do? The leader does most of the work anyways. So what are you good at?

I promoted this collaborative PS4 4.00-4.05 Webkit exploit effort to the main page now, thanks for getting things started @kazookid0!

When @CJPC did this for PS3 lots of VERY talented developers joined in (to name just a few: @adrahil, @courier, @ggparallel, @grafchokolo, @HanSooloo, @iCEQB, @ifcaro, @iqd, @kakarotoks, @LightningMods, @Mathieulh, @NDT, @parkerparker, @r3pek, @RexVF5, @rickylyh, @RPS, @SKFU, @sonyk, @subdub, @xorloser, etc) and eventually @geohot hacked the PlayStation 3 so remember anything is possible! :D

I can throw out ideas to investigate. For example, since PS4 Linux has been in development, we have learned that there is a second operating system on the PS4. Perhaps this could be targeted as a "dual boot" into custom firmware by injecting itself before the original firmware can take hold.

If you say so. Although there is a HUGE difference between then and now just letting you know.
I think you'll find the same result during any time period including present day because it comes down to necessity... if enough people feel the need for something strong enough and get together as a group anything can be accomplished. :)

You'd be surprised in the PS3 days (yeah, there were watermarks then too) how many employees who didn't want to pay $60 a pop for video games came forward anonymously and leaked all kinds of internal SCE docs, files, ***s, Downgrader / JIG stuff, etc.

The alternative is to do nothing, wait for Chaitin Tech / Fail0verflow to share theirs (which doesn't seem likely at the moment) or take the lazy but costly way out (both financially and closed source to the scene) and pay for a Re-DRM dongle when Cobra or another group make one. Just sayin...

First of all, thank you for joining in, second of all, I totally understand your concerns regarding the amount of work i'm eventually able to do. just to say, i am willing to transfer ownership to somebody who wants to and CAN to do more work than me if people are more confortable with that idea, i just felt the need to give the first push and start it up

Edit: PSXHAX remove my dev badge plz, I didn't even published a single line of code by now. In my opinion I need to earn it, not just by setting up a github "*woohoo developer*"
