Hi i recently got another ps3 and i wanted to play ps2 games but its not FAT model so i thought maybe you can help me to choose which CFW can i use and please post step by step. My Firmware is 4.81, cech-2001a Model

According to the Chart your PS3 is downgradable to Install CFW on with a flasher, and as for recommendations on those that can play PS2 games see my post HERE.

Basically PS3 4.81 CFW that includes Cobra 7.5 offers PS2 ISO support for Backwards-Compatible (via hardware) and non-BC (via software) consoles.

Like i said im completely NOOB on these so i dont know what or where to go first. i read the post you made in that link but im just lost and i dont even see CLEAR step by step for non ps3 jailbreak expriences even though i used to install CFW in my old PSP go but that was years ago so i forgot whats it like now

Understandable, the 'Install CFW' link is where I'd start if I was you. ;-)

To use CFW you'll need to get your PS3 4.81 downgraded with a hardware flasher, and that FAQ details them... or if you don't want to buy a hardware flasher and do it yourself, there are members in the BST Forum that offer a service to do it for you.

After you have a downgraded PS3 console in front of you, then I'd worry about which CFW to go with. (-:

I dont get it though. An flasher??? that means i have to shell out more money for this Long dead system? Also i'm curious if it can be installed easier with USB memory stick or something.

That's correct, because your console has 4.81 OFW (official Firmware) on it in order to install CFW you'll need a hardware flasher to downgrade it because Sony blocked the 'software method' of downgrading PS3 consoles in v3.55 and yours is above that.

You can't install CFW on your console via USB like you could a normal PS3 Update due to the above reason, however, if you absolutely don't want to spend any money on a hardware flasher or downgrade service the only other option is to find a friend with a CFW PS3 and borrow his console and use one of the newer methods to inject/transfer game backups to it.

Yeah that sucks, any idea how much is E3 flasher normally go for? Since Ps3 is around over 10 years so i figure they should be that cheap.

All I can go by is the FAQ, as the guy who wrote it @misiozol is one of our resident PS3 pro's :)

To quote from it: Q. What flasher should I buy if decide DIY it ?

A. There are few on the market but we limit to best choice and most popular one and best is Teensy2.0++ but it needs soldering ~50 cables and cost ~20$ you can buy clip for it but it will cost you another 40$ and still clip needs to be soldered to flasher but only once and can do it solderless advantage is it can do consoles with NAND/NOR (phat and slim).

Another option is E3 it seems it's quite popular with clip will cost you ~40-50$ and comes with clip no soldering needed BUT it has one huge disadvantage it's quality and there are lots of reports with bad dumps because clip did not make proper contact with flash chip, another disadvantage is it can only do consoles with NOR flash (mostly only SLIM).

Good luck with whatever you decide! (y)

To remedy bad dumps on slims recommend using a clamp over the clip with non metal on top but have used pennies be4 with Hard foam best option and finger tight clamp

PS2 games on cfw can be played from the internal hdd only, so you have to install them via ftp or file manager (usb) to the internal PS3ISO folder.
