Install Media Player on PS4 without PSN?

Is there a way to install the media player without using PSN. I am on OFW V3.51 and I do not want to update it above 3.51 at this time.

Also if I join PSN and try to download it will it update my OFW? I have updates disabled in my settings.

With the exception of when PSProxy is working, normally to connect to PSN you'll need to be on the latest PS4 Firmware unfortunately.

There are some alternatives to play media files on the PS4 such as HTML Mods like BiteYourPlayer, PS4 Media Server or Plex Media Server but their usefulness depends on what you're seeking to do.

While you can download the PS4 Media Player PKG File (17.1 MB) directly, we may have to wait until more research is done by scene developers before being able to install it on non-dev / non-jailbroken consoles with the required IDX / RIF Files.

To use any of the media server methods from what I see it is done using the internet browser. Don't I have to log into PSN to do that therefore updating my system?

It's hard to believe there is no way to access a browser from the PS4 without going through PSN

I know for 1.76 there are work-arounds, for newer versions there may be some other methods such as DNS redirection worth looking into.

I think there are some more complicated ways by accessing the internal programing of the system, however it's risky and I don't recommend it

sorry if i missed the news, is it means we can install pkg file (ps4 media player pkg) directly to the console? how we can do that? fyi i'm on 4.06 for now and cannot find the media player on my machine

The last I've seen is a Media Player PS4 4.05 PKG is available, but based on the comments it only works for photos at the moment as videos get stuck on the loading screen.
