When you try to update it and mentioned it was not working do you mean it gives you an error code.. if so, which one?

Much of what I'm reading on Google about error code 8002F2C5 indicates using a PS3 hardware flasher to fix the issue... however, I sold my PS3 over 4 years ago so let's see if @racer0018 has any other suggestions. ;)

 no way it will work , from what I have read you trying to put games on internal HDD with your PC , no wonder it ask you later on to format, and if after this update is req. it needs to be NOR console , so you most likely have FAT console with OFW 4.75 , you must write more about console and what FW it's on ;)

If the system is asking for firmware to format the hard drive it's a nor system. The nand system keeps all the firmware files on the 2 256mbs nand chip that it has. While the nor ps3 has to keep some of the firmware onto the hard drive.

Anyway what is the firmware on the system. Are you trying to put games on the hard drive to play them using the backup of playing them on ofw. Or does this system have cfw on it. What files did you add or change to make it ask for a format. Thanks and let me know.
