Hello, I made this work-in-progress (WIP) port package to run DOSBox 0.74 on the PS4 using uLaunchELF by Nominus and PS2 DOSBox by belek666. I take no credit for any of these programs.

Simply install the PS4 PKG, run filebrowser then navigate to cdfs then select ps2dosbox.elf. DOSBox loads fine but will not accept input or run games as its not seeing the DOSBox.conf file... I added the file but its not looking for it in the right spot I think.

Download: Ulaunch Elf with Dosbox.pkg (14.88 MB)

If anyone wants to play around with it simply decompile the FPKG using the standard password (00000000000000000000000000000000)

I believe the traditional location for DOSBox.conf would be in mass: which uLaunchELF doesn't see on the PS4. If someone could remap that program someday to find different storage locations it would help marvelously with homebrew like this.

I think that uLaunch ELF also does not work with a USB keyboard on the PS4. I dont know if this can be reconfigured or not.

Apparently usb3 won’t work with dosbox so nothing will work via usb, and it’s impossible to mount a game.

I think unfortunately this is dead in the water.

I believe dosbox is running fine. If only I can make it see some input and the dosbox.conf file I think it would work 100%. Last night I was playing around with scumm as well. I couldn't get that to work but I did notice a bunch of files related to mapping of the USB ports and mapping other things that are missing in dosbox like usb.irx

I'm going to try tonight to merge those two programs a bit and see what happens.I tried manually editing autoexec settings in dosbox. Conf to run a game automatically, but I had no indication that dosbox saw the file

@SirSilvan83
Because I could do with some X-Wing vs TIE fighter on my 65 inch 4K TV LOL

I found some patches for dosbox on sourceforge that include USB serial workarounds. I might just need to compile a new version.

@dragonsurfer: a 640x480 resolution scaled up to 4k? :D if it runs then I would love to see a picture of thatx'D

For me it was even horrible to play C&C 1 on a 19" monitor years ago, even it was the SVGA version... Damn, I'm getting old ;)

@jacobsson
The PS2 emu has controller support at least. When I hook up my PlayStation 2 keyboard, the keyboard doesn't work yet the buttons on it that pertain to a controller do. Controller support is enough to get by in dosbox, although not as comfortable as a keyboard and mouse.

If i could make dosbox see the configuration file i could auto launch games and programs and possibly remap keys to buttons. Compiling a new version might be the answer as then i coild also maybe map the dosbox.conf file to a new location. Ive never done this kind of compiling before, but i don't give up easy once i get an idea, and i have several.

I do also have email correspondence with "Burger" Becky Heineman. I may see if see if she can offer some advice as shes a compiling genius. Even came up with her own unique code called brgrlib.

@dragonsurfer
thx for sharing - I like to see that "black box" again. I think I know that from my xbox360... May you will pack the next version with another ID because when I installed it, I got the messages that the content is already installed.

Good luck to improve the PKG

@lotus78
I will make sure I change the id next time. I noticed too that anything built off the ulaunch elf pkg will have that id unless i change it

I can confirm now that this port of dosbox is intended to be ran from the mass device area. So recompiling it to run from a different location or modifying ulaunch elf to see this location is the only way to get any farther.

If i recompile dosbox I can also patch it with the usb serial workarounds at the same time. If anyone is good at this stuff, please take the reins, because ive never done it. But ill put 1000 hours into it if there is even a chance I can make it work.
