As planned, today PlayStation 4 hacker Marcan of Fail0verflow covered how they reverse-engineered Sony's PS4 console via FreeBSD / Sandbox to install PS4 Linux on it at Chaos Computer Club (CCC) 2016 alongside a Portal 2 Steam (older Demo / Guide) PS4 demonstration video below on Firmware 4.05!

According to @Joonie of Team Rebug, PlayStation 4 developer @flatz got PS4 Linux running on Firmware 4.05 day 1 too! (y)

While fail0verflow stated that due to the 'drama' that comes along with it they aren't going to be the ones to provide PS4 exploits that may lead to backups on the PlayStation 4 (especially after what Sony did to GeoHot), scene release group TRSi is still active and there are some very interesting things happening HERE so it's best to stay at 4.05 or below although not all developers agree.

As we've already got confirmation on PlayStation 4 Custom Firmware chances are good these guys have done PS4 CFW also at some point, but likely just did it for their own personal use to learn and have no plans / desire to enable backups on Sony's PS4 console... sooner or later someone else will share I'm sure. ;)

so in the end nothing new - who wanted Linux on PS4 it could be already run on FW 1.76...

also if they are scared to release exploit why they dont send it to Rebug team or another? :(

Watching his presentation was quite entertaining even though this stuff is way over my head. I recommend watching the full thing.

Since they basically had to make everything from scratch, and is a bit "hacky" still, ps4 doesn't seem to be the best option for running linux plus they need to patch ps4 pro. I was hoping to turn my ps4 pro into a part time HTPC without having to buy another device.

Hope a jb does come this year though. A lot of good homebrew apps were created for ps3 after jb.

What's the point of running linux on ps4 ? can this help us to figure out in future how to run debug setting or ftp in new updates ?

running linux on ps4 update 4.05 mean it's like 1.76 update exploits ?

To all the people that ask that, I'll bring this point up. If they can get linux running on it, it shows that they can basicly hijack the entire PS4. On the old consoles it was a goal of hackers to get a linux system running and then they were done. If you see linux on a console it means it CAN be set up for homebrew.

Previous consoles hackers and pirates worked together to break the system. This new generation they don't want to help with backups. All the pieces are there up to 4.05, it will just take others to inject the proper code.

OMG... This is damn crap... there is no good news for Jailbreak.. This is only Linux news for 4.05 this is old for 1.76 nothing new but I hope this year's comes PS4 CFW stay away below 4.05 version.. I'm lucky I'm on 3.50 only....

Lol, all people care about is backups & are still wondering why f0 is running Linux only.

Don't blame them for not releasing anything.
