Local or Online backup storage advice?

How is everyone storing data? I store backup data I do not want to lose to Google Drive, but I am depending on it too much.

Is it better to create a NAS and store locally or upload and mirror to multiple online storage site?

Use at the moment a 4Bay Asustor NAS for Backup until i need a bigger one ... 4x8TB is enough for the moment ...

I use a NAS to store things locally. For me this gives me more control than relying on a cloud service. It depends on what the data is that you "do not want to lose". I would just not store personal data on a cloud service.

4u 24 bay (mostly filled with 8tb reds) server in my rack and the pile of 15 8tb reds next to my rack i need to shuck and install

i would go for local, as online storage files get deleted at times and its more expensive to pay subcription than running a mini low power NAS server in the long run.

I agree online storage can be hard to control. Most data I don't need immediately anyway, so I think I will go and set up a NAS for myself as well.
