Proceeding both yesterday's H-Encore2 PS Vita Kernel Exploit and their previous revision, today Sony pushed live a PlayStation Vita System Software / Firmware 3.72 update which patches doesn't patch the Bitter Smile PKG adding it to the revoke list blocking the game and blacklisting the userland exploit and didn't blacklist the h-encore² on FW 3.72 after all. o_O

:alert: Needless to say, it's advisable NOT to update as most PlayStation Vita sceners got a PS Vita or PlayStation TV to do fun stuff like jailbreaking, running exploits and homebrew on the handheld console. :cautious:

From Sony's PlayStation Asia page, roughly translated: PlayStation Vita 3.72 system update

System software updates for the PlayStation Vita system and the PlayStation TV system released for download on August 27, 2019 (2562). You can use this software to update your system software to version 3.72.

  • This system software update will help improve system performance.
 According to @SilicaAndPina on Twitter the homebrew application Chovy Sign by KuromeSan still allows PSP iSO's to work on 3.72 OFW, as can be seen in the demonstration video from his Silica's YouTube Channel below. :giggle:

I don't know why Sony keeps patching this thing, it's not like they're losing money since there are hardly any games for it. If anything, the fact that the Vita is hackable is good since it's the only reason to buy one so at least they're making money on hardware.

There is no way that a large company could release an update that fast for millions of devices.

Updates require development time, QA, have liability if things brick, etc. Even with such a small change, they had to have a mole in the scene and have had the update prepped in advance.

@Kraken they don't need to make a patch for "millions" of devices, technically ...just one! As long as the patch does what its supposed to, the amount of devices is irrelevant they're not making a patch for each and every one.

All they need is just to look at the pkg exploit ... its not rocket science to identify what entry point it uses. They already have the firmware, they don't have to rewrite the whole thing, just the point of entry and release it.

Sometimes if its not a big deal to them, like the ps3, they don't care especially since they want people to leave ps3 and go to ps4 and its no longer manufactured, then they'll leave it as is. but I guess they still value the vita for some reason, so they acted on this one quick.

I was referring to the liability, not the complexity (although there are several SKUs of Vita including the PSTV that each need to be tested). Sony has sold 15 million Vitas. Can you imagine the impact if a mandatory update bricked all those units?

Companies have processes to test updates to ensure that that doesn't happen. Even minor helptext changes have to go through QA. They can't just develop, create, test, and release a new firmware in 2 hours.

As it turns out, 3.72 does not patch Bitter Smile, so the update was likely in development for some time and completely unrelated.
