Not much sense in not updating right now. Even if there was a jailbreak in the works, it would be for a very, very low and buggy firmware. This would both severely limit anything you would ever play on it, and be stuck with one of the buggiest disasters, in console history.

If anything, I say update. Update as soon as you can, and whenever any legitimate whispers of a jailbreak may come someday, then start considering not updating. I can't imagine paying $600 for a system, to be shackled to one of the worst firmwares in gaming history.

The PS5 is a very, very long way from being optimal.

Am updating mine too. It's pointless to keep it at this low firmware and if there is a jailbreak on some firmware, I'll just get another ps5 for that.
Getting PS5 at launch and not using it to play what you want but rather keep it on the shelf for a mythical jailbreak that might never come or come in a year or so is fairly dumb imo.

I’ll be updating for awhile and stop when I have a few games I like, but don’t see any new ones that interest me. Or the whispers start. Probably will be a lull at some point like that.

Just update.. it cost 399/499 and its even if one has the money one has to be able to find one to buy.

Dont make the same mistake of the ps4 scene... and led by the nose by the "release when patched"...i am on 7.02... if on december nothing for it gets dropped then i am updating.

This is not as you thinking guys, (developers will take their time to release anything or choose not release anything at all). who has not patience needs to update.

A lot of people like me is not in a rush. What's the reason to update to latest firmware? to play 3 or 4 games? no Thank You!!!

@blimblim04 to be able to:
  • Play these "3-4 games" you've mentioned
  • Buy games you want
  • Play multiplayer
  • Use PSN
  • Whatever else I'm missing
What you get by not updating? A small chance of jailbreak and huge chance you'll run out of stuff to do it before it happens, if ever.

That's fine ofc, if such is your choice, but what is the point of buying ps5 at launch?

If you really need ps with jailbreakable fw, you can get it virtually at any time. I, for example, got ps4 in 2019 with fw under 5.0.5 (new one and for an adequate price)
