PlayStation fans will be seeing an empty room as both The Entertainment Software Association that runs the annual trade show and Sony confirmed PlayStation is officially skipping next year's Electronic Entertainment Expo event leaving many speculating the move could be an indication their next-generation PlayStation 5 (PS5) console may arrive in 2020.

Microsoft and Nintendo will both still be attending E3 2019, which runs from June 11th to the 13th in Los Angeles, California.

Share your thoughts on this in the comments below, and to quote from Kotaku.com on the breaking news: “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” said Sony in a statement.

“PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

Sony also skipped this year's PlayStation Experience, a conference that it had held every December from 2014 through 2017.

They don't have anything to show. The Vita is dead. The PS4 has only a handful of exclusives left in it's life. The Xbone has even less happening, and the Switch is in another class. It's probably just not worth the effort and cost for them.
