Although Sony's next-generation PlayStation 5 console isn't expected until the 2020 holiday season, today Andrew Marmo tweeted about a rumored Sony Interactive Entertainment patent (sony-interactive-entertainment.pdf) and images that surfaced on LetsGoDigital.org that may provide a glimpse into either the PlayStation 5 or PS5 Development Kit design by Yusuhiro Ootori (though search lists Sony's Engineering Director as Yasuhiro Ootori) featuring the Roman numeral V. :sneaky:

Here's a rough translation of their latest update, to quote:

The design of Sony keeps us busy and so we continue to search. We have just managed to get more product images showing the patented device from different angles. It actually seems to be the PS5 game console or the PS5 Development Kit, the latter being used by game developers.

On the back you will find, among other things, the connection to connect the device to the TV. In addition, the wide slot seems to be intended to insert a disc, making it likely that we are indeed looking at the long-awaited Sony PlayStation 5 (Development Kit) here.

Incidentally, it is not common for a Dev Kit to be so richly decorated, with the V-shape, etc. You should not be surprised if it turns out that this is the real PS5.

Let us know your thoughts on this PS5 rumor in the comments below!

 Update: According to Matthew Stott, a Senior Artist at Codemasters, on Twitter to quote: "Its a dev kit we have some in the office" in response to MetroUK's news article.

The confirmation Tweet (and Twitter account) has since been removed, perhaps as he spilled the beans before Sony was ready. Thanks to ComicBook.com for the updated information.

Thanks for sharing :) My guess is if these rumored PlayStation 5 design pictures are legit it would be geared more towards a retail PS5 console than a PS5 DevKit... as most of the previous PlayStation development kits (such as this PS4 DUH-D1000AA DevKit for sale) have been plain and boxy rather than designed with a cosmetically pleasing appearance.

Gotta admit, it looks horrendous but it seems like it would be breathing better than PS4Pro. My PS4Pro sometimes sounds like a plane taking off which is only going to get worse with games that will come in the future for PS5 if they would keep the same/similar design. Although this looks as bulky as the original xbox. It was another reason that people bought PS2 at the time. Least it was one of mine.
