Wow, a hard pass on the PS5 Pro, lol $699 for digital and it doesn't even come with a stand? My ps4 pro and ps5 going have to break their backs carrying me through to ps6 probably.

Could this mark the official beginning of an era where digital gaming dominates exclusively, signaling the end of physical media? I know it’s still possible to buy a separate disc drive (at an additional cost), but it really feels like the days of physical media are numbered.

Things could get even worse if this shift leads to a full-blown service-based model, where offline play is disabled or requires online verification to start. But I digress. Enough with the doom and gloom.

@Chumdiddy1 it's been 4 years and the price is the same. i think that if they are not shifting the price of the base ps5 down, then it's gonna be like this for a long time. now that xbox is clearly losing this gen, sony has no incentive to lower prices. it's literally the only option for a mid-gen refresh.

yeah if xbox wasn't so terrible sony would have more incentive to be competitive.

but who are we kidding though?

next gen consoles w/ some games will cost $1000-1300 or so.

I doubt the PS5 Pro will be worth buying, that sure would be a good choice for those who don't already own a PS5, but do we really need some useless extra details on the graphics?

The problem is how much it costs, buying a gaming PC would be a better choice.

The introduction of the PS5 Slim without an optical drive could be a sign that Sony and other gaming companies are increasingly leaning towards digital game distribution (like Xbox Game Pass).

In my opinion, consoles will soon exist only as streaming devices or multimedia hubs, but without traditional drives and significant computing power.

The price of the PS4 Pro compared to the PS5 Slim in my country (Poland) has increased by 1/3. This makes many people consider investing in a more powerful gaming PC instead.

So for the price increase of PS5 pro, is it actually worth the upgrade in terms of performance per dollar compared to regular ps5? And if yes, by how much? What is the ratio looking like?

This is how much i paid attention to the ps5 pro, it's digital only haha no thanks keep it. Uplift will be 20% if your lucky, don't quote me as that's my guesstimate. if anything they will leverage the extra gpu cores to ai for the fancier ray tracing and upscaling.
