Earlier this month a USPTO Patent from PS5 / PS4 Lead System Architect Mark Evan Cerny by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC outlining Backward Compatibility Through Use Of Spoof Clock And Fine Grain Frequency Control surfaced via shaunmcilroy which may resolve their ongoing backwards compatibility issues. :geek:

To recap briefly... this comes following the initial news that PS5 Backward Compatibility May Not Support All PS4 Game Titles, rumors of a PS5 Remastering Engine, a Cloud-based Backwards Compatibility Patent, previous confirmation that PS5 Won't Natively Support PS1, PS2 nor PS3 Games, a PlayStation 5 Backwards Compatibility Update with PS5 Backwards Compatibility Status List API and an Exploring PS5 Backwards Compatibility Trailer.

This past fall Mark Cerny Discussed How PlayStation 5 Was Built, with rumors last month of an an upcoming Project Spartacus Subscription Service that may incorporate enhanced backwards compatibility... to quote from PSU.com:

"In particular, claim 11 already begins to suggest that this is a solution to getting games from all generations running on PS5 and PS4.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the different version of the system is a less powerful system than the current version of the system.

This is a very exciting patent, especially considering the rumored Project Spartacus subscription service that will overtake all other current forms of services offered from Sony."
so, basically, for future firmwares and for spoofing, if you want to find the offset for the sdk_version patch when implementing your own hen, first you dump the kernel, and then you search for these bytes: 26 00 00 00 06 80 04 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
immediately after those bytes is a uint32_t integer that tells you the *** version

This is an old patent for PS4 Pro/PS4 software thru BC (its been updated to include PS5 BC mode). It got nothing to do with PS3 BC at all.

Apparently some thought this new Japanese PlayStation commercial featuring singer Kenshi Yonezu hinted at BC also:

Would be nice but it appears to be an update of the same patent that's been on file for a long time. You have to basically keep it alive every year or so or you'll lose the patent.

I hope this doesnt just end up being a streaming service again, or some micro transaction riddled mess. Pay 40 to rent a game for a week.

The ps4 initial was too have a ps3 emu where you put a disc in and you would have too pay a certain amount of money for the upgrade but sony backed out

It's unacceptable that you can play more ps games on microsoft console when we take out new releases. Sony have to get the work done even if it's ps1/ps2 at first.
