In PS5 News today, Sony revealed details on compatible PS4 peripherals and accessories with their upcoming PlayStation 5 console launch that is just months away now.

After unveiling the PS5 Hardware, PS5 Tech Specs followed by a PS5 FAQ, Sony's PlayStation VR Peripherals Marketing and Licensing rep Isabelle Tomatis officially confirmed today the DualShock 4 (DS4) Controller will NOT work with PS5 games as detailed below to quote: :nolove:

In our June Future of Gaming digital event, we announced an array of PlayStation 5 peripherals and accessories that will be launching this holiday season. But we know that many of you were also wondering if and how existing PlayStation 4 peripherals are compatible with the next-gen system.

Today, we’re happy to share a brief FAQ that will answer some of your questions. If you have questions that aren’t addressed, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?
  • Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
  • The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
  • The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
  • Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
Please note, not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories may work on PS5. We recommend checking with the manufacturer to confirm whether a product will work on PS5 and specific titles.

Will DualShock 4 work with PS5 games?

No, we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller.

Is the PlayStation Camera for PS4 compatible with PS5?

Yes, PlayStation Camera will work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that will be provided at no additional cost to PS VR users. More details on how to get the adaptor will be announced at a later date.

And that’s it! We’ll continue to provide updates on PlayStation 5 down the road, so make sure to check back soon.

Feel free to share your thoughts on these PS5 limited backwards compatibility concerns with PS4 hardware in our PlayStation 5 Forums.

Connect your PlayStation VR to your PS5 console to enjoy supported PS VR games.

PlayStation 5 Camera has the same boot mode behavior than PlayStation 4 Camera. An omnivision bridge with the same idVendor=0x05a9 idProduct=0x0580 aka ov580 USB Boot waiting firmware. I will need someone with beagle3 sniffer for research purposes.

it seems there is an option to enable dualshock 4 controller on ps5 games via ps5 testkit. it'd be nice to find which values of sflash are modified to allow such a thing since it asks to reboot console when applied, which means it's sflash values only.
the option

ok so it's an assist mode/cp box only thing. we can't enable it normally, we need to do it via registry

Comments

Not bad. It could be much worse if Sony forced us to upgrade all peripherals and accessories for "new" ones released specially for PS5. Like it was when Apple made all peripherals obsolete overnight with a switch to lightning :)

PS1 gamepad not compatible with PS2
PS2 gamepad not compatible with PS3
PS3 gamepad not compatible with PS4

Why would PS4 gamepad compatible with PS5 and why would anyone care having PS5 with included gamepad...

Will game developers really use all things of dualsense? even in ps4 i dont really see this happen. using the touchpad for mouse, the buttons pressure...
