Playing PS4 9.00 games with 5.05 patches

I have a 5.05 and a 9.00 PS4. I use a extended storage drive and share it between them. What does a 9.00 do when it uses a 5.05 patch? Does it use the 5.05 update and what would be the benefit of using the 9.00 update?

Compared to the original files, 9.00 backports has less code changes than 5.05 backports. This means potentially better stability and performance, and fewer issues. But if a specific pkg runs well on 5.05, it will run well on 9.00 too.
