I recently acquired a PS3 Slim unknown model # (sections of case missing for custom airflow and venting). i have repaired/replaced a couple parts and got it to turn on.

I am unsure if it was previously jailbroken. when it turns on it says it wants me to load firmware version 4.76 or above via removable media.

My question is this... Is there a method that I can use to see if it currently jailbroke before I load an OFW and potentially lose Jailbreak?

If it has CFW on the PS3, it should say what it is under Settings > System Update > [System Information] I think... are you able to access that menu or won't it even let ya do that?
Cant get to the menu. I forgot to mention that the HDD was removed when I got it. So with the new HDD it wants the firmware update just to load.

Gotcha, did you try running the MinVerChk?

Copy the extracted PS3UPDAT.PUP file from the .rar to /PS3/UPDATE on a USB stick and then reboot the PS3 with the USB stick inserted... worth a try.

I put in the same "PS3/UPDATE" file path, right? Sorry... just read the rest of your suggestion. realised you answered it already

If you insert a USB stick into your PC, then in its root create a folder named "PS3" (no quotes, in CAPS) and then inside of that folder create another folder named "UPDATE" (no quotes, in CAPS) and then put the extracted PS3UPDAT.PUP file from the MinVerChk.rar inside there... so:

PS3 > UPDATE > PS3UPDAT.PUP (all caps) on the USB stick.
