i was planning to replace my ps4 HDD unit with a larger one, so i planned to clone my old PS4 HDD into new and larger SSD.

the question is, assuming all things to be okay, can i still use my old PS4 HDD into the same unit of PS4, so i can use it as a HDD back up operating system?

You can clone the HDD to a larger SSD if you're willing to lose the extra storage capacity. After that, you can keep the HDD as a backup, it will work if you put it back in the console. But keep in mind that if you update the system software later, it must also be updated on the HDD in order for the system to load.

If you clone a smaller HDD to a larger SSD, the available space will be the same as before because the partition size is unchanged. This is a problem because there is no way to resize partitions.
