After the recent PS4 Gentoo Kernel Sources 5.3.7 with Baikal Chip Patches, here is a guide by me (@mircohoooo) covering how to install Gentoo Linux on PlayStation 4 and turn your PS4 into an emulation station! šŸ§

## How to Install Gentoo and Turn Your PS4 into an Emulation Station

## āœ Intro:

If Your System Firmware is 5.05, you already know that you have the luck to use a Kernel Exploit which gives you the ability to run a Linux Distribution.

The principle is the same as Fedora for firmware 1.76, you need to copy the image file to a USB stick or hard drive. You can use the tools RUFUS (GUI) in Windows, Etcher for MacOSx or DD under Linux.

After installation, you can enlarge the Linux partition with Gparted in Gentoo, for example if you have installed it on an SSD or HDD on the USB 3.0 port.

My Models:
  • CUH-1006A and CUH-7016B

I have jumped with gentoo. PSXITA ARC is quite useless and has tons of vulnerabilities. Only thing that I am missing is to install apps at will.

I have several problems with wifi. Some weeks ago it connected fine, but yesterday, when the exploit changed, I am totally unable to connect wifi. Does anyone have the same problem? I have CUH-2015A slim

@FalconX There is a way to mount ExFAT drives,

1. Summon the terminal, and use su priviledges:
Code:
su
pass: ps4
2. Then - as a root user - use the emerge command to install the Exfat feature:
Code:
emerge --ask sys-fs/fuse-exfat
Then,
Code:
emerge --ask sys-fs/exfat-utils
wait until they install, if anything asks to overwrite or something, say "yes". It may take some time to install, but later on, you will enjoy using your ExFat drive.

About mounting units, it is a must the unit has to be connected before booting your ps4 via usb hub.

@arodriguezt
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't tested anything recently linux related on the PS4. Had to wait 2 weeks to exchange my Wlan/Bluetooth antenna on the PS4 and now I'm busy with playing The Last Of Us.

But before, I've tried to emulate Mario Kart Wii, and it doesn't run fluent (in gentoo and manjaro). Overall I would prefer Manjaro and it's also more updated with the drivers from ITMania.

I had a chat with Cedsaill2 on Twitter. There is temporary solution until he gets new kernel as 6.72 has new amdgpu firmware so this solution flashes OLD kernel (but works).
  • flash Gentoo01-2020 to you USB drive
  • resize system partition (optional)
  • on your PC open 1st partition with kernel and init
  • replace (old) kernel from this tweet: bzImage (7.15 MB)
  • run/cache https://ps4boot.github.io/
  • load JB
  • load Linux USB Aeolia or Baikal depends on your console model
  • Gentoo will boot up :D
I don't take any credit for this. I just reach out to Cedsaill and he patched it up :)

Hey I tried to run gentoo linux on my 6.72 ps4 slim with a 3.0 usb stick (Kernel 5.3.7 Gentoo gc41cdf12d-dirt)

I can boot into gentoo (after several crashes) but it is extremely slow. A simple action such as resizing the usb stick takes about 15 minutes.
What should I do?

(I've tried other kernel files but they simply will not work)
