And from the README.md: pPlay

pPlay is a video player for the Nintendo Switch. pPlay support most popular video format, subtitles, http and ftp streaming and more. pPlay use the MPV interface to handle ffmpeg interoperability, which provide a fast, stable and powerful experience.

Installation
  • Switch: copy "pplay" folder to switch sdcard ("/switch/pplay")
  • PS4: install pkg and copy "data" folder on ps4 internal hdd
Usage (switch)
  • Use left/right to switch menu's and windows... select a media and... have fun.
  • When playing a media, you can press the "DOWN" or "A" button to bring the UI, the "R" shoulder for fast forward ("L" button to stop), and "LEFT" to access video, audio and subtitles selection.
Notes
  • pPlay can stream media from an http server with directory listing enabled, or an ftp server. To do so, you must edit the configuration file (pplay.cfg) to add your server address:
    • NETWORK = "http://samples.ffmpeg.org/";
    • NETWORK = "ftp://user:password@ip:port/";
  • As pPlay use MPV, you can put a file named "mpv.conf" in the "mpv" folder to play with. See the CONFIGURATION FILES and OPTIONS sections in the MPV manual for more information.
  • pPlay should be able to play most media. While 720p and 1080p medias should be fine, you can unlock all the switch cpu speed for heavy medias in the main options menu (LEFT button)
Cheers to BiteYourConsole of BiteYourConsole.net for the heads-up on this via Twitter! 🍻
PPlay v3.6 Video Player Updated with PS4 Support PKG by Cpasjuste.png

Comments

@Xei Sorry pplay is not aware of keyboard setup therefore input.conf is not used. Key input must be mapped programmatically and can not be configured. I might alter the ffw option in next release to accept manual defined input.

New pplay version 4.0 with following feature updates:

Download: IV0001-PPLA00001_00-PPLA000010400000.zip (44.32 MB - includes IV0001-PPLA00001_00-PPLA000010400000.pkg) / Mirror
  • PS4 pro support meaning smooth 4k rendering on ps4 pro.
  • Added more precompiled shaders making pplay independent of shader compilers.
  • Multi channel audio support 7.1.
  • Scaling PPlay to the ps4 resolution.
  • Smb2 support.
  • Added multiple network options which can be configured in pplay.cfg.
  • Fully mapped the ps4 controller to mpv commands.
Read the provided readme.txt for installation and more detailed info.

It is really amazing that the app is still being updated today, and a huge thanks to the developer! After using it for a while, I have some suggestions for button mapping and other related functions to make the app better.

1. Currently, the L2 and R2 are used to set a certain speed for playback, but they all play forward, if possible, can the L2 be set to play backwards? then it can be set to loop to switch playback speed by repeatedly pressing the button, at this time, the square can be set to automatically restore the normal playback speed at 1x

2. When playing a video at a certain speed, after pressing the cross , the panel below will pop up and will not automatically hide, but when playing at 1x speed, the panel will only be displayed for 5 seconds and then automatically hide, suggest modifying it to not automatically hide regardless of the playback speed, because when you use the left stick to fast forward or fast backward the video, you can continuously check the playback progress, if the panel needs to be hidden, the user can press the circle

3. When the panel below pops up, the square and triangle now function as faster backward and faster forward, suggest disabling these two buttons to avoid some accidental operations, In fact, the left stick can now replace these two buttons

4. Users can use the L1 or R1 to switch browsing the previous or next picture. When the cursor stays on the picture file, users can directly browse the thumbnail

@psbax4 Sorry to bother you, but PPlay V4.01 does not work on my PS4 Pro FW 9.0
For me it always is error code CE-34878-0

I did the following hence to instructions:

- installed the package file
- copied mpv.conf and subfont.ttf into folder /data/pplay/mpv
- copied libScePigletv2VSH.sprx and libSceShaccVSH.sprx into new folder /data/ps4shacom
- copied pplay.cfg into folder /data/pplay

Before that I was on V3.8 of PPlay. I did a deinstallation, deleting new folders and new installation after first time error message. Of course also I simply restarted the PS4 and tried again.

Since the PS4 did not only showed the error code but also suggested an update I checked the package file with PS4PKGViewer v1.5 by LMAN (LeecherMan) but it did not show me a kind of minimum FW version for the package file.

In the end I even tried out AutoBackPort, the version for FW 9.0 By CyB1K. I thought the package file could be for FW 11.0 that most people are talking about since the last months.

Maybe I overlooked a small but important detail for the installation process? Can you please help?
