:idea: In the changelog below @Cpasjuste notes he's currently seeking donations to buy a PS5 to develop on, so those interested in supporting his ongoing homebrew work in the scene can do so directly HERE via PayPal. <3

pPlay v3.8 Changelog:
  • PS4: correctly fix some clock/sync problems (previous fix was running all videos at 60 fps, they now correctly sync at video fps as on other platforms)
pPlay v3.7 Changelog:
  • PS4: fix some clock/sync problems (fix lag problems on 1080p videos)
  • PS4: fix "watch-later" mpv option
  • PS4: add new shader (support more videos)
  • common: correctly show currently selected video/audio/subtitle track in options menus
  • common: correctly restore video/audio/subtitle track selection and position on video restart
  • common: create pplay data directory on launch
pPlay v3.6 Changelog:
  • add PS4 support
  • further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments to enhance the user experience...
  • note: I'm actually seeking donations to start developing on the PS5 (to buy a device). If you want to support this, please donate here!
And from the README.md: pPlay

pPlay is a video player for the Nintendo Switch. pPlay support most popular video format, subtitles, http and ftp streaming and more. pPlay use the MPV interface to handle ffmpeg interoperability, which provide a fast, stable and powerful experience.

Installation
  • Switch: copy "pplay" folder to switch sdcard ("/switch/pplay")
  • PS4: install pkg and copy "data" folder on ps4 internal hdd
Usage (switch)
  • Use left/right to switch menu's and windows... select a media and... have fun.
  • When playing a media, you can press the "DOWN" or "A" button to bring the UI, the "R" shoulder for fast forward ("L" button to stop), and "LEFT" to access video, audio and subtitles selection.
Notes
  • pPlay can stream media from an http server with directory listing enabled, or an ftp server. To do so, you must edit the configuration file (pplay.cfg) to add your server address:
    • NETWORK = "http://samples.ffmpeg.org/";
    • NETWORK = "ftp://user:password@ip:port/";
  • As pPlay use MPV, you can put a file named "mpv.conf" in the "mpv" folder to play with. See the CONFIGURATION FILES and OPTIONS sections in the MPV manual for more information.
  • pPlay should be able to play most media. While 720p and 1080p medias should be fine, you can unlock all the switch cpu speed for heavy medias in the main options menu (LEFT button)
Cheers to BiteYourConsole of BiteYourConsole.net for the heads-up on this via Twitter! 🍻

Version 4.03 of pplay with stability and bug fixes.
  • All PS4 can now handle 4k media not including VR.
  • Tweaking VR with auto vr profiling which means better audio and video synchronization by reducing play speed.
  • Auto audio and video synchronization option.
  • Improve pplay stability by using less cache in mpv.conf
  • Bug fixes including mp4 files not playing from local or usb drives.

@wxywp4 My bad I was trying to improve the stability of pplay on highres media, which caused this bug, but it should work now.

@nuttertools mini app mode on ps5 is not supported. Unless someone figure how to run ps4 fpkg in mini app mode, ps5 support is not likely. You could code pplay to use software rendering only, which would make it compatible with ps5 but performance will take a hit.

@EtherEax I have made too many changes in a lot of repositories for pplay to perform and did not start with publishing the code in mind, so it would take a lot of work to make it public.

Does this support movies with subtitles built in or dual audio? I’m using a rather old player that doesn’t support that and if you do play a 1080p. Video with a 'higher' bitrate with subtitles built in it causes some decent stutters.

Hello, Thank you for this nice project ! I really love to play Files via DLNA. However i tried to add my HLS Playlist. It does not list the Playlist of different available streams, however it just plays the first available Stream.

My Playlist contains Groups and Images to be displayed. Would love to have a Group/Stream Grid with including images showing...

But anyway, big big thanks!

@psbax4
I am about to code my own PPlay but i am missing the configure commands for ffmpeg and mpv for proper (cross-)compling.

could you make them anyhow available please so i dont have to tinker around? :confused:

I’ve been have trouble playing h.265 videos on my current pplay homebrew app, l hope this update can work on that, l am excited to try it out.

Thanks, this is amazing. I was using version 3.8 up until now, and since I don't use stream services (youtube aside), it was easily one of my most used aplications. I used to see updates every now, and then the Github hadn't for some time so I thought this was abandoned.

But now, the sound and image are much better, and the things I most apreciated were the subtitles, and the ability to return video by some seconds (the lack of this was such a pain in 3.8).

I never knew this was an application for jailbroken ps4's. I'm gonna give it a try to see how it responds to watching movies/shows. It looks very handy to use
