Previously Sony updated the PlayStation 3 System Software to include Blu-Ray Disc Encryption Keys for New Movies (Advanced Access Content System (AACS)) as well as enhanced PlayStation Network Account Protection, with today's PS3 Firmware / System Software 4.90 Update 'improving system performance' once again according to the official changelog:
PS3 System Software Update 4.90
An update to the PlayStation 3 system software was released on 28/02/23.
In order to download the update, you need a minimum 200MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).
Always update your PS3 system to the latest version of the system software. By updating, you can enjoy additional features, improved usability, and enhanced security.
PS3 System Software Features
Version 4.90
As always, it's NEVER a wise idea to update PlayStation Firmware in order to make use of such things as PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW), downgrading, homebrew, Webkit exploits, etc for those in the PS3Scene.
The PS3 and PSVita forums were closed last year to new posts / replies and set to read-only for archival purposes, so only articles with no comments are periodically added in these sections now.
