This week brings @SpecterDev's (X Post) Byepervisor: How We Broke the PS5 Hypervisor talk for the PS5Scene from 15:30-16:10 on October 24, 2024 according to the Schedule at Hardwear.io alongside some more PS4 FPKGs from PS4Scene game and DLC dumpers with a release summary below (updated daily throughout the week as time permits).

Also this week is Kaspersky's Security Analyst Summit 2024 (SAS 24) in Bali, Indonesia featuring Shawn Hoffman (@shuffle2 on X.com) doing a presentation on October 23, 2024 covering hacking PlayStation 5 chips.

• Beyond Oberon: Exploiting PlayStation 5's EFC and EMC by Shawn Hoffman
  • Shawn has experience exploiting a variety of targets, but game consoles have always held a special interest.
    • The talk will provide a high level overview of the system architecture of the PlayStation 5 console, with focus on the efc/eap ("titania") and emc ("salina") chips.
    • Exploits allowing code execution on salina and titania will be detailed, along with release of a tool which implements the exploits. The process of initial exploration/discovery will also be briefly covered.
    • From a security researcher point of view, the exploits are interesting as they cover a hard-to-spot bug in a firmware state machine, and abusing hardware misconfiguration to bypass memory protection measures. The exploits/tooling allow for further research into the system.

Proceeding Artemis PS3, PS5 Hypervisor Exploitation from a PS4 Save Game and the Byepervisor Talk by @SpecterDev later this month comes a PS4 Lua Exploit dubbed ArtemisLuaLoader to run arbitrary Lua script from savedata by Gezine, a PS5 PKG Creation Tool via @master s9 (master_s9 on X / Master-s on Github) forked from PS5 PKG Build Tools alongside more PS4 Game FPKGs outlined below that we'll continue to update throughout this week.

Scene dev @zecoxao aka notnotzecoxao on X also passed along an External HDD Crypto Method (Credit to Anonymous for the Findings) while stating, "it's valid for PS4 and PS5 external hdd it seems" and speculating, "it'll be useful for PS4 saves in the future, maybe?"

Following the AutoBackPort Mod for PS4 9.00, this week's PS4Scene / PS5Scene updates kick off with a PS4PkgToolBox fork for analyzing and editing PKG application files from @SeregonWar on Github via X Post proceeding the Overflow WebKit Memory Leak PoC fork and some more PS5 UMTX Jailbreak Updates with @zecoxao stating via X Post, "some heads up about PS5 PKG installation and hypervisor being defeated: defeating the hypervisor won't automatically make you able to install PS5 PKGs, even if you have access to kernel .text read and write. You can however use the added power to try and defeat the a53io core processor that separately handles the PS5 PKGs, but nobody has tried that yet."
