PS4 System Software / Firmware 4.73 Now Live, Stability Update

Since Sony's last update we saw the E3 Share and PS4Kit clones to the MTX Key ModChip for gamesharing, and today Sony has once again updated the PlayStation 4 Official Firmware to version 4.73 bringing the most stable OFW to date!

While PS4 scene developers examine it to see what was changed and patched, some may want to give the PSProxy Bypass a try as it often works for a few days during Firmware transitions when the Passphrase changes.

Update: Reports of confirmations are coming in that MTX Key is blocked in PS4 Firmware 4.73, currently we're awaiting additional confirmations so if you update and try it let us know your results in the comments thanks!

Update #2: More reports are confirming with video proof Sony has blocked the MTX Key ModChip, gamesharing method and issuing bans on some PS4 consoles... more to come as it's available!

Update #3: Despite a contrary video, both the MTX Key and clones of it have been confirmed to be disabled by most rendering yet another for-profit device useless for the time being with more PSN account bans being reported!

Both the MTX Key and clones have been confirmed as being disabled in 4.73, although a few report theirs is still working so hopefully we'll figure out the reason.

Also to clarify for those following, freeplex is the guy who's device got ripped off by the cloners, and as a result he contacted Sony about the method used.

The guy who claimed he would share the Gerbers and related source files from the modchip is longtime scener GaryEdmunds... hopefully he'll follow through and deliver for learning purposes if nothing else.

the only way to make this piece of paperweight work again is to bypass the psn sign in forever without relying on proxy.

or make a new chip that can store licences in itself and can work offline on the second console which without deep knowledge of the nand and the system itself is impossible.

this worked for a week, if the same procedure appears again. count a week again.

PS3 3.41: Jailbreak dongle appears. A week later 3.42 update blocks the jailbreak
PS3 3.55 : Cfw arrives. A week later 3.56 update blocks everything and we yet to have see a real hack for 3.60+

PS Vita After 4 years of suffering, endless nightmares 3.60 hack Henkaku appears. A week later 3.61 Update blocks the hack.

PS4 2.50: Brazilian Hack. Update arrives on 26th march. hack appears on internet on 14th april. Update 2.51 21st april blocks the hack.
PS4 4.72: MTX Chip. Released on 24th july, (Many users recieved it early). a week from 24july,
4.73 update arrives.

It is clear that you can't rely on hacks which asks you to sign in. They will stop working the second Sony release the update. Hacks on Ps3 and Vita lasted longer, are still working and will continue to work bcoz they worked offline.

PS Vita and PS4 1.76 both works with webkit exploit, this thing kind of confirms that on new gen consoles even web browsers will work behind the sign in wall.

after almost 40 years of console gaming i bought a gaming pc 2 months ago. still would be great to have kodi retroarch dolphin etc on the ps4.

the ps4 is the first console since the genesis/megadrive where i bought games for. i will continue to buy ps4 exclusives.

We are in 2017, all AAA games are also available on Steam. The few Sony's exclusive games are PC games from the 90's.

If you have a gaming PC, games on Steam are cheaper and have better GFX & Framerate

If I was Sony, I would release GOW4 only for the PS5. Sell you PS4 pro 50$ to purchase a 600$ PS5 + GOW4 is a good deal
