Hello World! I've been reporting on Sony PlayStation hacking news since 2000 and started PSXHAX in 2014 to cover PlayStation (PSX), PlayStation 2 (PS2), PlayStation 3 (PS3), PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation Portable (PSP), PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), PlayStation TV (PS TV) and next-gen PlayStation 5 (PS5) platforms along with anything else of interest.
Click on my UserName author link above and you'll be able to view a curated list of all the articles I've contributed thus far to PSXHAX.COM!
Awhile back we saw the Russian WIP of PS4HEN called MiraHEN by The Sugarleaf, and today scene developer @Mathieulh shared a few details on their other projects including OpenOrbis ***- a free and legal PS4 development kit, OpenOrbis Toolchain- tools, patches and scripts to build PS4 homebrew and OpenOrbis Marketplace- an online marketplace for homebrew publishing similar to Cydia but without the repos.
According to Mathieulh, to quote: "The only place to find information on OpenOrbis is the github, any discord, twitter, reddit, or any social media otherwise is fake."
He also confirmed, "It's legit, someone from the group has asked me to tweet this" and that "It's a placeholder for now" although other PS4 developers including BigBoss replied with "They should change the open in the name then. Try to build a dev community without sharing sources is stupid."
Here are some details from Github on the OpenOrbis project, as follows from the README.md:
OpenOrbis - ***
OpenOrbis Team strives to provide an open source, free, legal *** for development of the PlayStation 4 console. We will not be providing any interfaces for kernel development. With this being said all of the things that will be included are as follows
Software Development Kit
Portable Homebrew/Payload Launcher Source (Currently for 1.76/5.01)
Replacement LLVM lld linker for no-prototype/stub generation of source code
New Features!
In order to ease development of userland applications like emulators, media players, and homebrew games, we have included a fully modified LLVM linker to replace the standard. This linker will automatically generate the approperate imports and import id's needed to run using the provided loader (TOOD: Link to source)
Faster compile times than other competitve homebrew software development kits...
To quote from his post on NGU: This mod menu is only for 4.05 and 4.55 PS4s. It can NOT be used online. It was tested on both versions. Also this menu only runs on GTA V version 1.00. Also the payload will automatically activate the debug settings.
How to install the menu:
1. Go to your 4.05 / 4.55 exploit page and run it.
2. Inject the .bin with your injector.
3. Exit the browser (NOT Circle!) with your psn aka. home button.
4. Launch GTA 5 (Make sure GTA was not already running or else this will not work!!).
5. Success! You can now open the menu with dpadright & square.
Errors:
Failed to detect GTA 5 - Make sure you load the menu before opening GTA 5, or you are maybe using the JP version of GTA 5.
No Notifys - Please restart your ps4 & try again.
Console crash after loading the menu - This happens sometime on the 4.05 firmware, just restart the PS4.
Freeze in the GTA 5 loading screen - This may happen if you're running a EU PS4. Here's the tutorial how to fix it (95%) made by my friend:
Options with "Beta" - They can freeze, but not very often. Just restart the PS4.
HOW TO FIX THE GTA 5 INJECTION FREEZE (BY LOADING A 4.55 MOD MENU)
If there are any errors in the menu, please message me on Twitter. Thanks!
Changelog:
You can see the changelog after downloading the files.
A few days back we saw some nice PS4 Linux progress by eeply, and today tikilou made available guide for Gnome on PS4 Pro Firmware 4.55 (Manjaro Linux) with a demonstration video below!
Here it is from French site Logic-Sunrise.com, roughly translated for those interested: PS4 Manjaro Linux PS4 V1 Available
Hello everyone, as you had to follow recently, Eeply has made a contribution to the Linux kernel with the Display Port Bridge driver => HDMI Panasonic MN864729, this advanced allows us finally to enjoy the video output of PS4 Slim and Pro on Linux.
In these conditions, I got to work, and despite some setbacks, I was able to draw small things, that's why I bring you a distribution ready to use, based on ArchLinux, but with the accessibility of an Ubuntu.
Here is a short video of the boot of Manjaro Linux Gnome, on a PS4 Pro with Firmware 4.55:
Gnome On PS4 Pro firmware 4.55 (Manjaro Linux)
Why Manjaro? Because it is both simple to handle, accessible, but also very flexible, and size advantage, rolling release, which means that it is updated in real time as the release of all its system components (no update to all X times like Ubuntu or Fedora), but also because, based on ArchLinux, it brings its share of tools including the community filing of scripts AUR.
The Aur system, Community, is very interesting, it could be the entry point for anyone to contribute easily for Linux on PS4 software side, via this repository, whoever can propose a script, who will pack automatically any file / software from pre-compiled sources or binaries. It is thus possible to offer applications, games, configuration files, or even ... A customized Linux kernel, custom drivers, etc. And the repository is already teeming with emulators, so it is very easy to compile automatically, the latest revisions from github many emulators (including RPCS3.).
The AMD x86_64 processor is also a very big advantage of compatibility with the PC universe, with Linux running on PS4.
Since their last update and the recent PS3Xploit Tools v3.0 release, today @Joonie of Team Rebug returns with Rebug 4.82.2 with Cobra 7.55 LITE (CEX / REX) PS3 CFW and Toolbox 2.02.15 Rev 1 followed by Rebug 4.82.1 REX / D-REX with Cobra 7.55 and Toolbox 2.02.16 and also Rebug 4.82.2 REX / D-REX with Cobra 7.55!
In the Tweets below, he states the following to quote: "Devs and researchers will know it's usefulness. It doesn't really mean anything for end users."
