Would You Buy / Support a For-Profit PS4 Dongle or Not?

  • Yes - as long as the cost is under $60 and it runs backups + homebrew

  • Yes - as long as the cost is under $100 and it runs backups + homebrew

  • Maybe - I'm undecided until one is actually available to research further

  • No - I won't pay for anything I don't need, a free solution will come in time

  • No - Re-DRM dongles steal from public developers and GITs work for profit

If you're in the United States, today (Tuesday, November 8th) is the US Presidential Election 2016 where either Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton or Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will become the next President of the United States. :eyesroll:

Not following politics much myself, I can't help but think of this video fitting perfectly for this year's Presidential candidates:

Anyhoo, it got me thinking that with all the voting going on today combined with the PS4 4.01 Jailbreak from ChaitinTech and both the EPEEN and TRSi scene group PS4 NFO updates it's the perfect day to run a poll here and see what everyone thinks of a for-profit PlayStation 4 dongle.

Since the PlayStation 3 Re-DRM TrueBlue dongle days many sceners including myself and @GregoryRasputin most memorably have been fairly vocal on being against DRM-infected dongles and those who peddle them, and now whispers from various dongle camps leave me wondering whether the crusade should continue with PS4 dongles or should we throw in the towel on the fight against them? :meh:

If you've never heard of a dongle before, in this context we're referring to a small hardware device that you would have to buy from an online shop which would plug into the PlayStation 4's USB port (or somewhere similar) and allow you to run commercial PS4 game backups and homebrew (unsigned code) in theory.

Soooo.. what do YOU think, voice your opinion by VOTING in the Would You Buy / Support a For-Profit PS4 Dongle or Not? poll and in the comments below!

It's a hard question , dongle will work on any firmware in future? How quality of product? Price should be low.

Where poll about something big from TRSI? :D

well i dont know about you guys, but back in the early ps3 jb scene...... i went and bought a ti 84+ calculator.... anyone with me here>>>lmfao.. and used the, i belive, Brandon wilsons ti 84 app with the start reset jb.... now that calculator was over $140,,,and i had to program it, it was actually brilliant so yes i would pay $100 IF i could use linux, and or dual os, RUN KODI! dont care about back ups at all dont mind suporting game developers, indys, ect, and for emulators... meh,

It all depends WHY it's being sold....as in is it being sold just because a company is GREEDY? Or is it being sold because it could ultimately lead to more home-brew and a free solution.....I know that it cost money to be an early adopter....the PS3 started out having a limited number of devices supported before it went to a free solution.....then it went to a full blown CFW that just required installing a firmware file....if it will end up like that, I wouldn't have a problem with them having a dongle....

To be honest, no! However, I did bought PS3 dongle when PS3 jailbreak 3.41 released! I might buy one but I think I should wait for a free jailbreak. Again, sometimes, I still feel that jailbreak is still illegal and I am so confused that people dumped their own games for us to download is called share and isn't illegal. My opinion about illegal is that if you download games from rental store or buy games from the store then returned back to store for a refund to me is an ILLEGAL. That's my believe but the people that have their own games and want to ripped their games to share with us for jailbreak to me is not illegal. We thank them for sharing. That's called love and sharing, I think. I don't know. Thats why I am so confused.

EDIT: I changed my vote. I bought dongle for PS3 a long time ago until I realised that they made a profits for themselves. No more! So I vote:

No - Re-DRM dongles steal from public developers and GITs work for profit

It should be free and open source...i didnt go out an buy dvddecrypter to rip movies or imgburn to burn ps3 x360 isos sure aint gonna buy a dongle from sum numb nut that stole 95% of oda ppls stuff and figured out the last 5% everyone needed so he makes a dongle and claims it as their/his/her own. but then again only the idiots buy it then the devs get their hands on it look at wats missing and voila its free..ish
