Many may recall PS3 developer @deank of DeanBG.com's multiAVCHD homebrew application that, with help from Open Manager 1.0 source code, was modified and transformed into the popular PS3 backup game manager known as MultiMAN today. :giggle:

"In the spirit of open source (when using other peoples code)" as modrobert put it, in 2011 @deank released the long overdue MultiMAN Source Code (source-archive.zip - 79.94 MB) with some unofficial repositories available on Github from other PS3 scene developers including Twinaphex.

Since then Joonie86 of Team Rebug also made available Cobra code updates for 4.81 and 4.82, although current MultiMAN PS3 source code remains elusive... so if anyone runs across a repository for it feel free to share!

That said, with the official announcement that MultiMAN PS4 is now in development comes the big question many PlayStation 4 developers and homebrew enthusiasts are left wondering... will PS4 MultiMAN be open source and freely shared with the scene on a public repository such as Github? :unsure:

MultiMAN PS4 in Development by DeanK, Open Source Code on Github 3.jpgHere's what @deank had to say thus far via STLcardsWS:

"After reading here and there I figured that Gold and Silver editions should come with 4.55 firmware. Luckily there is a pc store in my building and yesterday I got myself a Silver Edition (2 x dualshocks) - it came with 4.55 :)

Then with the help of @Joonie I was brought up to speed :)

Well mM for PS4 won't be anything like the PS3 version because of the different concepts between both generations, but I'll figure out some useful things to implement."

@mschumacher69 ofcourse it is a secure system, but so were the other systems i mentioned. my point is that i havent seen anyone on the dev scene even mention that he looked into non-webkit. all they talk about is webkit. even qwerty stated that he got into the ps4 scene because of the webkit possibilities. i am simply wondering why the many other options (most obvious being, like i mentioned, media player and save files) havent been explored at all, or atleast explored very minimally.

@mtnjustme assumptions, yes. But logical assumptions based on the close analysis of the current PS4 scene. Yes the PS4 is a highly secure system, if it weren't, it would have been pwned a long time ago. Believe me if an easier permanent jailbreak exists, nobody would have wasted their time with this temp webkit jailbreak. They would have all released the permanent jailbreak. And you cannot say they are lazy, devs release their work at their own pace and as time permits, so you should be grateful.

Regarding multiMAN, we'll wait and see if those assumptions are correct. @deank has said it himself, it's not going to be like multiMAN on the PS3 because of the obvious differences in the PS3 and PS4 jailbreaks.

@FFTHEWINNER how do you know that no one looked into non-webkit exploits? I'm sure they have, but no one is going to tell you that they looked into x exploit and failed. Only successful exploits would make it out. If qwerty said he got into the PS4 scene because of the webkit possibilities, that's probably because he knows it's the weakest link in the PS4's security and is the only one that opens possibilities. You don't know if he or others have explored other possibilities such as the ones you mentioned, I'm sure they have and found that there are no vulnerabilities to exploit there. Believe me no one is going to stick with the webkit exploit if there are other better exploits out there.

My point is, everyone here is assuming that there's gonna be a CFW and/or a permanent jailbreak because @deank is releasing multiMAN yaaaaaay and they are expecting multiMAN to be able to load HEN and do all sorts of things it did on PS3. But those assumptions are absurd. It wasn't multiMAN that made the PS3's permanent jailbreak possible, it was the leaked keys and CFW that made it possible. multiMAN is just a homebrew that makes use of whatever is possible on the available jailbreak. On PS3, it was able to do whatever was possible on CFW. Same on PS4, it will be a homebrew that makes use of whatever is possible on this webkit exploit, it's not going to suddenly unlock all possibilities on PS4. Not to say that other better exploits are not going to be found in the future, but for now, that's what's possible.

Keep in mind that after Sony patched the exploit on newer PS3 hardware that shipped with firmware higher than 3.56, the PS3 hasn't been permanently jailbroken again. The only PS3's that are permanently jailbreakable are those that shipped with 3.56 or lower. So if the PS3 itself hasn't been permanently jailbroken on newer hardware, how do you expect the PS4 to be permanently jailbreakable?

I agree with @mschumacher69 don't get me wrong, multiman is wonderful and I have utter respect for @deank and his work. It is almost 95% of my usage in ps3. But like @mschumacher69 said, it is not doing everything. It is just responsible for doing several things (and do it well) namely transporting ps3 backups, run them, organizing them (to be in internal or external). The jailbreak starts with leak keys which kickstart homebrew with kickstart backup and everything then thrive.

Hopefully ps4 go down the same path but it is certainly going to be a bit different as @deank mentioned. To be honest, I don't mind spending a few sec to load the webkit exploit which open the door to all these wonderful release of game backup (and thanks for all that contributes!). It's really not that annoying... think about how far we have come through since last year and how rapid it progress!

Think of all the people who put that heart, time, mind into this scene! I am so grateful for what we have already. The perm exploit down the road become less important. The only thing now I think need to be dealt with is how to install updates more free (not either base on a base package or rebuild kinda fuss) and how to get the dlc in ps4. I think I will be pretty happy even without perm exploit if those are tackled.

@Caelbrazil,

If there is news about multiman on PS4. We will be first to know right here. No news means nobody know yet. Be patient.

He is still working on it and he isn't say anything just yet. Keep your eyes on psxhax on the first front page for an announcement. It could be weeks or months. I want to know too but I am not asking. (y)
