Recently @stooged lent a hand sharing both details with source code on Backing Up and Restoring the PS4 Database, and he followed up with a handy DbBackup.bin Payload compiled for PS4 4.05 OFW users to backup their PlayStation 4 database to a USB Drive alongside one for dumping save data below.

Download: DbBackup.zip / Source Code / DB_SG_Backup.zip (8.79 KB - dumps save data into a folder called GameSaves) / DB_SG_Backup_v2.zip (8.27 KB - Dumps All User Accounts) / DB_SG_Backup3.zip (8.82 KB - Adds Notification Messages from 2much4u) / DB_Backup_455.zip (Updated for 4.55) / usb_455_db_backup.zip (0.02 MB) / Cache-Install: ApplicationCache.db / DB_SG_Backup-50X (Latest) / GIT

To quote from his recent post with usage instructions:

just put a usb stick/drive into the usb port and run the DbBackup.bin payload

it will save the addcont.db and app.db files inside a folder called DB_Dackup on the usb drive.

if you do not use a usb stick/drive it will backup the database into the /system_data/priv/mms/ folder on the ps4 and it will be called app.db_backup.

to restore the db just ftp into the /system_data/priv/mms/ directory and upload your backup copy.

credit to @XVortex for the neat way to check which usb port has the drive in it in their ps4dumper source, I tried a few other things with no decent result but @XVortex had a simple method to do the trick :)

So is it normal for the internal hdd to show space used?

Was I supposed.to format the hdd as extended storage through the ps4 or keep.it as exfat through Windows which is what is now?

Also, once app2usb is done and i have the games on the external, can i delete the pkgs or should i keep them archived somewhere?

If you had one, you wouldn't be asking those questions.

1- Put all you hard-earned dl'ed games on the 10TB
2- Install them, if you run out of space get an external 4TB Backup Plus
3- Keep the games you play a lot on the internal 2TB (yes you need a 2TB internal too)
and move those that you want to keep for later to the external one.
4- Now you have a total of 6TB and you can swap them in or out (keep the external hdd offline, no need to wear that one out for nothing)
5- And you now have total bliss! Enjoy

I keep all my PS4 stuff on my PC drives, then I have 2 dedicated drives for the PS4, a 6tb and a 8 tb drive, plus the 2 TB inside. You don't extended your drive, you just plug it in and install the games.

Then run the apptousb payload with the right settings, and it will find the game on your external, move it to the right spot, symlink it and then delete the one off of the internal drive. The packages get cut and moved to the new spot X:\PS4\CUSAXXXXX\XXXXX.pkg They won't stay in the main directory if you use the payload correctly to move them.

As far as archiving, I would and do archive everything I download like this. But depends on how fast and easy you can redownload them if you need too. I don't have the best speeds, so I have drives like people have bluray collections lol.

Hi Sovikos

With 5.05, you can use an external drive with sorny's blessing, swap the games to the internal hdd in and out. Once the game is on the internal hdd, you can play it or delete it.

Not sure if you can delete a game that's on the external drive proper. (still waiting on a sale for that Seagate 4TB Backup Plus, so I don't have it yet to test ;))

Yeah, I have a WD 4tb external hooked up. (No external power) App2usb completed today and they run fine. My only question is the PS4, still shows like I'm using up almost all my space. I want to install more fpkgs that I have but will the ps4 say I'm out of room? Should I have made the external extra storage as added storage through the ps4 format?

@UltraLex Oh yeah for that, it will just increase the space you have used. So for example say I have a 2 TB drive installed and I have used 1.5 TB. So I install some more games, lets says 300 GB. I transfer that 300 GB to the external. It should now say I have 2.3 TB and 1.8 TB used, so basically I still have the 500 GB left on my internal.

Eventually you could have storage say something like 4.69 TB/6.38 TB, when you are using a 1 TB internal drive and a 8 TB external one.
