Recently @stooged lent a hand sharing both details with source code on Backing Up and Restoring the PS4 Database, and he followed up with a handy DbBackup.bin Payload compiled for PS4 4.05 OFW users to backup their PlayStation 4 database to a USB Drive alongside one for dumping save data below.

Download: DbBackup.zip / Source Code / DB_SG_Backup.zip (8.79 KB - dumps save data into a folder called GameSaves) / DB_SG_Backup_v2.zip (8.27 KB - Dumps All User Accounts) / DB_SG_Backup3.zip (8.82 KB - Adds Notification Messages from 2much4u) / DB_Backup_455.zip (Updated for 4.55) / usb_455_db_backup.zip (0.02 MB) / Cache-Install: ApplicationCache.db / DB_SG_Backup-50X (Latest) / GIT

To quote from his recent post with usage instructions:

just put a usb stick/drive into the usb port and run the DbBackup.bin payload

it will save the addcont.db and app.db files inside a folder called DB_Dackup on the usb drive.

if you do not use a usb stick/drive it will backup the database into the /system_data/priv/mms/ folder on the ps4 and it will be called app.db_backup.

to restore the db just ftp into the /system_data/priv/mms/ directory and upload your backup copy.

credit to @XVortex for the neat way to check which usb port has the drive in it in their ps4dumper source, I tried a few other things with no decent result but @XVortex had a simple method to do the trick :)

Please help, i recently purchased a new PS4 pro and i've been wanting to copy all my game saves from my old PS4, both ps4 have 5.05 firmware.

Thanks for the reply stooged. I just remembered the cause of me losing all save games is definitely a kernel panic I had (and not upgrading to 5.05 as I originally thought).

From now on I'll make sure to run your payload every single day.

Hey, can someone please help put me in the right direction? I have used the app2usb and my games that are installed on my internal have been copied to my external. The external shows all the game folders so I know they are there.

How do I delete the games from internal and run them from the external? The external is exfat and games copy fine to it. It's a 4tb drive and 1.76tb of games are on it so far, I just don't know how to make the ps4 look at the external for the games.

Hope someone can help, thanks.

@UltraLex if you used app2usb and it succeeded (which looks like it did) then all your games are automatically deleted from internal hdd. Think of it like a windows shortcut which stays on the internal hdd but actual data resides on external. The shortcut file is only about a few bytes.

@stooged Could you please add the location 'user/trophy' to the next release. That way people would be able to restore their trophies as well.

The 2 locations to backup and restore trophys are:
'user/home/xxxxxxxx/trophy' and 'user/trophy'

I used this method via ftp myself when upgrading my HDD and I was able to restore my all my trophies using it.
