ScummVM 1.8.0 'Lost with Sherlock' PS3 / PSP Emulator Updated
It's been quite some time since the ScummVM Team's last release, but recently sev has updated their PS3 / PSP Emulator to ScummVM 1.8.0 dubbed 'Lost with Sherlock' with details below.

To quote from developer sev: ScummVM 1.8.0 "Lost with Sherlock" is finally there!

No, we do not want to make it a new rule to release ScummVM slower and slower! It has been many months since the last official release... but in that time, tons of work has been done, resulting in one of our biggest ScummVM releases to date!

ScummVM 1.8 adds support for ten new games using eight brand new game engines:
  • Amazon: Guardians of Eden
  • Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity
  • Broken Sword 2.5: The Return of the Templars
  • Labyrinth of Time
  • Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender
  • Sfinx
  • The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Rose Tattoo
  • The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel
  • Zork: Grand Inquisitor
  • Zork Nemesis: The Forbidden Lands
In addition to new game support, we've updated the MT-32 emulator to the latest upstream version of munt, and switched AdLib to Miles Audio for those games which originally supported it. This means games in ScummVM sound better than ever!

We've also overhauled the graphics subsystem in AGI, basically replacing it. As a result game compatibility with old Sierra titles is high as never before, and even includes platform-specific system dialogs, palette and font for Apple IIgs, Atari ST and Amiga versions of the games. Game speed for Apple IIgs is handled properly now. And it's even possible to switch to the looks of another platform.

New ports include GCW-Zero (yes, sev finally got one from the Kickstarter) and Raspberry Pi.

Also, along the way we have moved...
Connect PlayStation (PS1) to the Internet with PSXNET Library
PlayStation homebrew developer Lameguy64 has recently released a PSXNET Library, which allows users to connect the original PlayStation (PS1) video game console to the Internet!

PSXNET

A simple library and client program that will allow the original PlayStation to connect to the internet via a serial link connection to a Raspberry Pi. Made mostly for fun and as a silly little proof of concept showing that a console from the 90s can connect to the Internet.

It supports basic TCP and UDP (untested) communications as well as connecting via DNS resolve. There's no support for https out of the box but improvements to both the library and client programs are encouraged.

Compiling the example program will require the PsyQ PlayStation *** and msys for make and related GNU utilities. The included client program must be compiled and run on a Raspberry Pi.

Setting up a serial link connection with the PSX and Pi is very simple, just wire the PSX's Tx, Rx and Gnd pins from its Serial I/O port to one of the pins of the Raspberry Pi's GPIO interface (but Tx and Rx must be crossed).

The picture below shows a test image which the PSX downloaded from the Internet through the Raspberry Pi with this library and client program.

Fail0verflow's PS4 Kexec to Load Linux on PlayStation 4 Follow-up
Following the recent PS4 BadIRET Kernel Exploit Source Code and PS4 Kexec Code to Load the Linux Kernel, below are some additional Linux PlayStation 4 details geared towards end-users from Wololo. To summarize:

If:
Then according to Fail0verflow you should be able to run Linux on your PS4.

But what does this mean for the average consumer? Well, with developers having access to the PS4 software via Linux, they can examine files hidden from the average user, and then decrypt the update system and find a whole to install homebrew via the XMB. This is a lengthy process however, and since 1.XX the firmware has got many new patches and is more secure as SCEA (Sony) predicted such actions.

However, don’t give your hopes up as the PS4 is capable of downgrading and some hackers are already looking at the hardware to accomplish this. There is no worry to update to any OFW, offered by SCEA to your PS4, just it will take longer to get CFW when you update.

PS3 and PSP Communication Processors Exploit via Mathieulh
Sony PS3 hacker Mathieulh published a PlayStation 3 and PSP Communication Processors Exploit today for other developers to examine followed by the Despertar Del Cementario and M33 source code (under GPLv3) for the M33 10th anniversary.

Sound interesting? Check out the PS3 and PSP Communication Processors Exploit details below!

Communication Processor

Hardware
  • CXD9790GG (I/O)
  • TCP-510 (Board ID on the DEH models such as DEH-R1040)
  • TCP-520 (Board ID on the DECR-1000)
(TCP-510 matches the TMU-510 motherboard, while TCP-520 matches the TMU-520 motherboard) The PSP DTP-T1000 unit also sports a communication processor but it does not come as a separate board, the hardware is integrated/soldered directly to the motherboard, unlike the PS3 CP, it does not run the firmware from RAM (the PS3 CP copies the firmware from ROM to RAM at boot so changes are, by default not persistent) and therefore writes files directly to flash.

CEB units feature a PCI slot capable of harboring a CP daughterboard (Sony used such setups as System Debuggers before DEH units came along), CP boards switched to a proprietary interface and shipped to 3rd parties starting with DEH-Rx

De/Encrypt Communication Processor updates

This is how to decrypt/encrypt Playstation 3 Reference Tool Communication Processor updates. (use this knowledge wisely)

This was achieved by exploiting the communication processor firmware and gaining root privileges on the running Montavista Linux. The key for the CP update packages is located within the toolupdatedec binary located at /usr/local/sony/bin/toolupdatedec

The update packages are just tar.gz packages encrypted using AES256CBC Here is the syntax to decrypt them :

The first 16 bytes of the package is the IV, the Second 16 bytes is the hash of the decrypted package.

So use this Syntax after skipping the...
