As planned, today PlayStation 4 hacker Marcan of Fail0verflow covered how they reverse-engineered Sony's PS4 console via FreeBSD / Sandbox to install PS4 Linux on it at Chaos Computer Club (CCC) 2016 alongside a Portal 2 Steam (older Demo / Guide) PS4 demonstration video below on Firmware 4.05!

According to @Joonie of Team Rebug, PlayStation 4 developer @flatz got PS4 Linux running on Firmware 4.05 day 1 too! (y)

While fail0verflow stated that due to the 'drama' that comes along with it they aren't going to be the ones to provide PS4 exploits that may lead to backups on the PlayStation 4 (especially after what Sony did to GeoHot), scene release group TRSi is still active and there are some very interesting things happening HERE so it's best to stay at 4.05 or below although not all developers agree.

As we've already got confirmation on PlayStation 4 Custom Firmware chances are good these guys have done PS4 CFW also at some point, but likely just did it for their own personal use to learn and have no plans / desire to enable backups on Sony's PS4 console... sooner or later someone else will share I'm sure. ;)

Okay, which firmware ? Don't tell us that they got confirmation on CFW for 1.76. Most of us are under 4.05. :)
OMG... This is damn crap... there is no good news for Jailbreak.. This is only Linux news for 4.05 this is old for 1.76 nothing new but I hope this year's comes PS4 CFW stay away below 4.05 version.. I'm lucky I'm on 3.50 only....

No, we are fortunately that we are on 2.57 only. :D
I hope a cfw will come soon... I didn't update my ps4 since 2 months now

We didn't update our ps4 since last November 2015. The firmware is 2.57. @_@

Guys sorry that I am spamming but failoverflow just showed us linux again and won't release an exploit so when do you guys think a cfw will come?

If all I get is a cfw with Kodi, emulators, and the ability to read off an external hdd or wireless network for movie streaming, in addition to being able to update games and stay on CFW, I'm very very happy. Steam runs, so I'm curious how long until someone tackles SteamOS.

It felt like a dejavu... On dec 2015 failoverflow also release a linux based os on 1.76 ofw.. I agree with psxhax. This showed that a cfw might already available, but only for private use.. Cant blame them for not make it public..

Do you think it will be public?
