We've covered the PS4 Full Debug Settings 4.05 Payload release, and today Tralala LS from French scene site Logic-Sunrise.com shared a video demo of Trypeur installing The Last of Us Remastered 1.06 PKG game update (see the PlayStation 4 Package (PKG) Finder and PS4 Package (PKG) Database for more) via Debug Menu on an Exploited PS4 4.05 console using Trypeur.96.lt. :)

This comes following how to Install PS4 PKG Files Using a Function vs Debug Settings and PlayStation 4 developer @flatz's demo of Custom Repacked PKG's, as the PS4 4.05 scene awaits Flat_z's Upcoming Release in hopes it will aid developers in porting code for running PS4 4.05 Game Dumps on jailbroken consoles.

To quote from their blog, roughly translated: "It is very hot right now on the PS4 scene with the famous kernel flaws of SpecterDev and all the payloads 4.05 that fall from the sky and the ability to boot linux. Debug menu now available simply with a payload, we see all the colors.

I recently noticed that it was possible to install game UPDATES with the PKG's installation menu on a previously installed game via a disc.

Be careful not to install an update requesting a firmware higher than 4.05, otherwise your game will start and you must erase your entire game to remove the update."

Installing PS4 Game Updates on 4.05 via Debug Menu Demo by Trypeur.jpg

Yes I'm sure, I downloaded based on game id.

So I tested again with multiple (single/multi part) update pkgs and all fail to install.

Updates only work for those who have the original disk but don't work for those who have fake signed packages (PS4HEN).

Updates need to be repacked and dumped as per this guide.

I am kinda new at the ps4 scene, may I ask:

1.) if everything (updates) need to be decrypted and repack, what is the reason for putting web site and putting encrypted version of updates (e.g. orbismodding, octolus, etc.)?
2.) Also what is the reason for only putting the latest update on those sites? In ps3 era, I know sometime updates are incremental, that's not true in ps4 anymore? Is that why only the latest update is enough?
3.) On top of that, have been puzzling about the 'delta package' on those... what is the use for those? I try to blindly install those pkg, but it doesn't work.

Sorry for bundling questions.

1. Those can be installed if you have the original disk game. Then the game can be dumped and re-packed with the update.
2. Those are official links from Sony, orbismodding and octolus just query the Sony servers for a game and parse the results on the page. Sony only serve links to the latest update, there are no incremental updates anymore.
3. The delta package contains the changes between the latest update and the previous update. So, if you're already on 01.03 for example and 01.04 is released, your PS4 would download the smaller delta package instead of downloading the whole 01.04. But if you just purchased the game and you're still on 01.00, then your PS4 would download the whole 01.04.

This way, if you've had the game for a while and you've always been updating it, you would only need the smaller delta package between sequential updates. You would only need the larger full package if you're jumping versions (from 01.02 to 01.04 for example).

Thanks for the detail explanation. Now I am all enlightened. ;)

Following up on your Q3 answer about delta package, it only have the last delta? e.g. if current latest is 1.04, is the delta only from 1.03 to 1.04? What if my game+update is not quite there, e.g. 1.02, but it's not fresh 1.00? Would they then uninstall the whole update and install the big latest 1.04 (not delta package)? Since I would imagine the delta won't work to jump from 1.02 to 1.04...

Also, let's say if I install latest update, and find out it actually needed higher fw than I have (e.g. latest update need fw 5.05, but I am in 4.05), of course I won't want to update to 5.05. But now the game is patched, do I have a chance to 'uninstall' the update?

Or it will even remove the game installed on the internal hdd? (I ask this because I have disc FF XV, and the install for v1.00 is quite huge (I think the whole disc, 48gb?) If I 'accidentally' install latest update and find out indeed I can't play, will I need to remove the whole game and start install fresh? That would take another hour...)

The delta is only from previous to latest (1.03 to 1.04 in ur example). If you're on 1.02, the PS4 would download the full 1.04 (no uninstall needed).

You wouldn't be able to install an update that requires fw higher than 4.05 because original updates don't install anyways. And I doubt anyone would fake sign an update that requires fw higher than 4.05.

As far as I know, the update pkg available for download on sony is all encrypted, so you cannot install directly even with ps4hen. Unless someone found the way to decrypt those. Right now I think the only way is for people who already install the updated, and there is way to rip it out. But I haven't seen anyone putting those out so far...

Here is the link I am referring
