Following the previous PS3 DTU / Backup Injection / CFW to OFW Methods, the recent PS3Xploit Tools v2.0 release by @esc0rtd3w and his latest file updates, today @ErikPshat let us know on Twitter that as a result you can now run any PS3 games on 4.81 and 4.82 OFW without the need of a second PS3 on CFW using a new method of injecting through backups any games with LIC.EDAT on OFW 4.81 / 4.82 (Step 3)! :ninja:

To quote from the latest update on PSPX.ru, roughly translated: Running backup games on the PS3 OFW without any ODE and IDPS
  • Step 1. Convert the game
  • Step 2. We make an injection into the backup
  • Step 3. We use the exploit to upload the license file LIC.EDAT
The first two steps are covered already in numerous places through our forum including HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE so we'll focus on Step 3 below, once again roughly translated: Step 3. We use the exploit to upload the license file LIC.EDAT

Special requirements:
New method of injecting through BACKUP any games with LIC.EDAT on OFW 4.81 / 4.82 (step 3) by slai7 (Apostol)

Thanks to Jason Borowski for * FIXED TUTORIAL FILES FOR 4.81 / 4.82 CEX * ROP Chain !!!

Instruction:

1. Download the game from this topic, or convert by the method from step 1.

2. Copy the root of the flash drive LIC.EDAT from the prepared game (folder LICDAT)

3. Inject to backup using the method from step 2.

4. Configure the connection between the PS3 and the PC (DNS on ps3 should be the ip of the computer if the connection is direct, or in the same network if via a router).
  • Wired.
  • Wireless.
  • Manual setting. Look only at the connection types, the rest is not yet for you.
5. Download exploit (miniWeb already included in the archive)

6. Unzip the archive (exploit) and run the HTTP server miniweb.exe

7.
A command window opens, remember the third line of the Host: 192.168.X.XXX:8000
Code:
MiniWeb (build 300, built on Feb 28 2013)
        ">(C) 2005-2013 Written by Stanley Huang <[email protected]>
    Host: 192.168.0.100:8000
8. Open the browser on PS3 and write in the address bar Host (local IP address: port), obtained in the previous step, do not forget to specify the port after the IP address (for example 192.168.0.100:8000).

9. The exploit page opens. Clean the PS3 browser (history, cookies and the rest). Make the home page of the home page, close the page and re-open it.

10. Insert the USB flash drive into the drive near the drive to the drive port.

11. If you need to change the memory type (NOR / eMMC) depending on the PS3 model (default NOR)

12. Select ROP Chains: Read / Write File test from the menu.

13. In destination, change to TitleID from your game, ie /dev_hdd0/game/TitleID/LICDIR/LIC.EDAT (where TitleID is the name of the game's boot folder, for example NPEB12345, it contains PARAM.SFO with the active Bootable parameter)

14. Click on the Initialize ROP Chain and see the text below under the buttons, if prompted to exit the browser, exit and retry the actions in the browser.

15. When everything is done correctly, you will have an Execute Chain button available, click on it.

16. Close the browser on the PS3.

17. Start the game.

 Some slightly updated English instructions are also available HERE from @in1975 for those interested with the following file update:

Additional recommendations on the topic:
  • Table Google - List of tested and working games, as well as notes to them
  • Table Google - List of games with notes about the presence or absence of LICDIR and UPDATE patches (source)
  • If everything seems to be done right, but when you start the black screen
  • We transfer images of games from the Computer to PS3 (CFW) using Open PS3 FTP Server
  • You can independently prepare the game according to the instructions above, downloading its image from the corresponding topic. Games that have an update-patch have in the title such an icon and tag [vX.YZ]
  • If you / friends / relatives do not have CFW, you can use the services of recording games.

GTA V and GOW Ascension work; tested them last year on 4.70.

This list can be used to determine if a game qualifies for this, as there are a few even with updates that won't.

"Finding offsets" isn't reliable at all. No one has the time to keep on trying this all day.

I have literally tried this all day today, clearing cookies/cache/history, restarting browser countless times, even resetting PS3. It never was able to get the success message.

@slidersg1 Man, i redone the backup and restore process, making sure to read everything in TABR, IT DOES inject the game! Even size of backups are different! but nothing shows in XMB!

Question: many users cause issues in backup/restore? This may be the only motive...

I'm super tired and give up for now.

Read everything carefully and learn. Everyone is recommended to read and dismiss:
  • Also, the bootable (bootable) PARAM.SFO specifies the method for starting the game. if the game starts from the HDD, then there should be set the HG Harddrive Game parameter for unconverted old games to 2.70 or DG Disc Game (bluray)for converted disk games with LIC.EDAT. Here, the matter is that the boot folder of the game can have almost any name. And because it's bootable. Here the launch and search of the game is done not by name, but PARAM.SFO gives the system the command to print a shortcut to it in XMB, therefore, it is not necessary to search for a game from which folder to launch it. This is immediately prescribed in the database and on the shortcut in XMB.

  • In short, the PS3 knows about the existence of the game folder, no matter how you called it, though NPEB12345, even BLES12345GAME, even if it's a disk game. The important thing is that the startup file starts the game - EBOOT.BIN. And this file EBOOT.BIN searches for game files already inside its folder by relative paths. It does not matter to him how the folder is named, because he himself is in the same folder and is looking for files inside. But he can not find the game data in his folder, because they are outside of it, namely in the folder with the TitleID of the game (BLES12345), whose name is certainly spelled out in the EBOOT.BIN itself. The minimum version of the firmware, written in EBOOT.BIN , can be learned this way:

  • Why can the game require a drive? - This may be due to the fact that you did not observe the elementary conditions in PARAM.SFO for the distribution of data in the folder with the data of the Game Data or the folder with the game BOOTABLE, that is, they made a mistake in their parameters or simply populated the places PARAM.SFO, where they are not intended. And made mistakes in other parameters. Suppose, if you rolled the game version of the update, but did not update the version in PARAM.SFO, then the game constantly checks before launching the update and sees by PARAM.SFO that the game is not updated, i.e. there is a lower version, than you rolled it. Then the game will constantly ask for, download and install the update.

  • Then, in EBOOT.BIN developers can check the disk check in the drive and maybe the originality of the files on the disk, so the game can search and require a disk if it does not find it. Some games simply check the presence of a disk in the drive, then just insert any license disk. And some also check the files on the disk by their checksums, then without the original disk in the drive can not do, but this is a few games. Also, the game may require a disc if the correct license file is missing, if it is provided for by the game, then the game looks for it on the disc. There is another signature of the files in which the flag is set, that this file is zabinden to disk. Run the make_npdata utility (located in this thread) and there you will see an indication which flag indicates "Disk Bind".

  • All signed EBOOT.BIN / SELF / SPRX / EDAT system files can have this flag. Run the make_npdata utility (located in this thread) and there you will see an indication which flag indicates "Disk Bind". All signed EBOOT.BIN / SELF / SPRX / EDAT system files can have this flag. Well thats wierd if you have more than one user delete it , or check if a folder is created on the games section @UlquiorraSama

@Valued i am not for or against any of this, but i will defend the tutorial lol
