MSX Game Nemesis 2 Emulation on PS4 Preview by BigBoss
Emulation on PlayStation 4 has existed in several different formats to date, from PS4 Pong Controlled by Nintendo DS to the GameBoy Emulator Cinoop Ported to PS4 via WebKit Exploit, some PS4 BD-J (Blu-ray Java) Games with an FAQ, to a preview and release of the first emulated Blu-Play title.

We've also seen some PS4 Webkit Emulators, a PS4 JavaScript Emulator demonstration, a GameCube / Wii Dolphin Emulator on PS4 Linux and most recently details on the PS2 Emulation / Directory Structure on PS4.

This weekend PlayStation 4 homebrew developer BigBoss shared a brief teaser preview on Twitter stating "Do you wanna have fun with your PlayStation 4?" as the caption with a picture below of the 1987 Konami MSX game titled Nemesis 2 running on what appears to be a PS4 port of one of the many MSX Emulators. <3

As we await further details on this emulation project and hopefully a public PS4 scene release, those like myself looking to get your retrogaming on can do so right from your PC or smartphone with the latest MAME or...

PS4 NamedObj Kernel Exploit Strategy Overview by SpecterDev
Yesterday we saw disclosure of a 4.05 PS4 Kexec, and combined with a Userland Exploit like JailbreakMe PS4 4.0x WebKit RCE the PlayStation 4 scene is eagerly awaiting a public PlayStation 4 Jailbreak for Firmware 4.05 to surface. :D

In the meantime, since Porting JailBreakMe and Breaking Down PS4 4.0x WebKit Exploit PlayStation 4 developer @SpecterDev shared on Twitter a PS4 NamedObj kernel exploit strategy overview of the 4.05 Kernel Exploit that Fail0verflow released. :ninja:

To quote from the NamedObj Kernel Exploit Overview.md:

Introduction

So fail0verflow released a writeup today on the namedobj exploit. I and a few others have had this exploit for some time but did not release as we received help indirectly from f0f, so it was not entirely ours to release. Now that it is out however, I'd like to talk about it as it is a really interesting exploit.

Below is not going to be a full write-up, but more of a framework or strategy that those who are interested can use to try to implement this kernel exploit. In due time I will release my implementation after I've edited non-burned components out of the exploit.

The Bug

So the bug is essentially type confusion with the 'kind' field of the 'id_entry' object used in named objects. Named objects are objects that have properties associated to them (such as a name as you might have guessed), that points to the real object in the heap. By specifying a type 0x5000 for your object, you can cause type confusion.

You now need to find another area of the kernel that can abuse to corrupt your object. Luckily, there is sys_mdbg_service(). This will allow you to...
PS4 UI Mod Alpha 0.12 and Installation Tutorial by eXtreme
Since their Alpha 0.11 Update the folks at e✘treme-Modding.de put together both PS4 UI Mod Custom Home Menu Alpha 0.12 with a PlayStation 4 UI Mod Installation Tutorial and 1.76 Homebrew Sample on their YouTube Channel. :thumbsupxf2:

To quote from their Blog: PS4 UI Mod alpha 0.12 – Custom Home Menu by e✘treme

Since we can load Backups / Homebrew on PS4 Firmware 1.76 a Custom Home Menu is useful now. In version 0.12 Alpha you see a installed Disc Game as GAME Launcher and OMSK as HOMEBREW Loader.

And here's the corresponding PS4 UI Mod Tutorial from their Blog, to quote: Installation of the UI Mod TUT

* If you are going to install this UI Mod you must initialize your PS4 first. *

Requirements:

1. PS4 1.76
2. Extreme Modding UI Mod RAR.
3. Windows PC
4. FTP Client
5. Call of Duty AW and GTAV installed *OPTIONAL

On your PS4:

1. Boot your PS4
2. If you have the PS4 initialized, you can now install the COD AW and GTAV games, no need to run them just let the applications install to the UI. If you do not have these games continue to step 3.
3. Go to your Internet browser and head to http://sce.party/ps4/playground/
4. Enable FTP and Debug settings and stay on this page.

On your computer:

1. Extract the file to the desktop (you will be focusing on the Extra & Mod folders)
2. Open up the FTP client (I recommend FileZilla)
3. Type in your PS4 ip address at the top and in port type in 1337
4. Once connected on the left hand side look in your desktop folder and locate the two files (Extra/Mod)
5. Open the files to select the contents
6. With the Extra file open right click system_data and hit upload, then user and hit upload. (We are installing straight to the PS4 so there is no need to put them in specific folders).
7. Do the same with the files inside the Mod folder.
8. When the pop-up comes up saying overwrite, just click yes for all on the bottom left and continue.
9. Once done transferring the files reboot the...
